Focus On One Thing At A Time
In my previous post, I talked about how indispensable persistence is in playing in the internet marketing (IM) game. I also talked about focusing and warned you to not buy anything at all before you implement everything you’ve bought.
It’s All About Focusing
If you are doing too many work, or task, do you think you will be able to learn anything from it? No, you won’t.
You will put yourself under pressure and it is just plain stupid for me. Rich Schefren, known as “guru’s guru”, talked about focus in many of his blog post. He also released few e-books on how scarce our attention to something.
That’s why getting into IM game is getting harder and harder everyday… but it’s not an end to those who haven’t plunge in.
The Power of One
When you’re trying to figure out which money making tricks that will make you most money, you must remember, if you are not fully pay attention to details, you will see a below-expectation result from your little experiment and you will make a wrong conclusion.
That’s just wrong to me.
How Many Things There Are To Be Tested?
If you want to talk about tactics, there are too many of it. Here’s what I have in my head right now on what you can use just to bring traffic to your site:
SEO (for Google, MSN, Yahoo), PPC (Adwords, YSM, AdCenter), Social Media (Digg, Reddit, Del.Icio.Us, etc.), List, JV, and Video (Youtube, Google Video, Dailymotion)
There are six categories that I could think of right now, and they can even be divided into their own respective niches (for example, in SEO you could divide it into three main ones, and in social media… there are just too many of them!). To test all of them at once is a sure-fire way to kill yourself. And by testing all of them at once, you can guarantee that you’ll learn almost nothing from it.
My Own Mistake
Here’s one stupid thing I’ve done recently. Do you know about NiagaKit recently launched by Team Flarebiz?
It is sold for RM500 (USD143) and it is made for someone who wants to make their own online store fast, and they even custom designed your store just for you. It’s a bargain, if you need to put up your own store fast and without touching too much of the technical details on your store and if you have the money in your pocket.
I promoted it, and I got one sale. For a fat RM100 commission.
The problem is: I don’t know where that sale is coming from!
I tried everything (well, actually, I only used two techniques, using forum before anyone else did mention about it, as well as emailing my tiny 15-people only list) and I get a result that I’m damn proud of.
Hey… I only have 15 people on my list and remember it’s a RM500 package I’m selling here!
Even though I got the sale I wanted (I expect I got nothing), I didn’t get what I needed most, which is to discover which type of traffic that converts most.
Don’t Make The Same Mistake As I Am!
The whole point of this post is to reiterate how important it is to focus only on one thing at a time. Just do one thing at a time, so that you know which one is making you money, and which one is not.
Whatever thing you want to try right now, make sure you have some ways to measure it so that you can duplicate the process the next time. You don’t want to waste a lot of time trying to do the same things twice.
As Albert Einstein used to say:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Brand New Gmail Themes
I had a pleasant surprise when I opened up my Gmail a few minutes ago. Seems like Google have implemented themes to their email services. Some are just basic colour changes, while others features images that changes according to your location, local time, sunrise, sunset and weather.
Then there’s something like this:

I’m currently using the Planets theme, as its one of the themes which is supposed to change according to location and local time. Right now it’s showing an image of the giant planet, Jupiter. Maybe tonight I’ll get to see the icy rings of Saturn.
The themes are mostly developed by Google themselves, with 3 themes being developed by external artists. Chances are Google will be allowing more external artists to come up with new themes as time goes, but whether or not Google will allow users to come up with their own themes is still uncertain (but you can always use GreaseMonkey for that if you’re on FireFox).
The themes feature seems to have just been launched and not everyone will have access to it at the moment. If you are one of the lucky few, you would immediately notice a change in your Gmail’s appearance and there will also be a notice saying that you can now change your Gmail’s theme. If not, try checking whether there is a “Themes” tab under your Settings option.
Do You Have What It Takes To Make Money Online?
How many e-books have you purchased in the last three months? Five? Ten? More than that? How much money do you make by applying all the techniques you found in those e-books?
None?
If you’ve bought that many e-books but still a clueless newbie, than I suggest you to stop buying anything before you read what I have here. It might change your life.
It’s not about how hard you work
If you’ve been trying to make money online for a year and still haven’t got your “lucky break”, than you certainly noticed that, it’s not about hard you work, but its how you use those things you’ve learned from those purchases.
You can make a good looking, family friendly blog and post a lot of thing, but if you don’t do it the right way, you won’t get the result you want.
If you are an affiliate marketer, you can try to employ every single tactics you can find online, but if you’re not using it correctly, you’ll find every single tactics you used are useless.
In the online world, you need more than just a hard work. You need to learn how to use your resources effectively.
Don’t spend a lot of money (hell, if you can, don’t spend anything) getting new software
There’s no point spending hundreds of ringgits trying to get the latest whiz bang software that will automate the creation of blogs. There’s no point trying to buy an e-book by IM guru who doesn’t know how to make money online other than the IM niche.
What do I mean by using your resources effectively? Well, take myself for an example.
How do I get good in bringing in sales for my clients? Is it through the latest persuasion tactics the scientists discovered in their labs?
Nope. I’m using the same old principles that has governed human beings since 2,000 years back. I read the same old book on advertising. I make money when my clients make money.
You need to learn how things work
I learned how to use basic human psychology principles in my sales letters and that’s the same thing you need to do when you’re trying to make money online.
You need to learn how to use all those tactics, techniques and tricks you discovered in those e-books. You can’t mimic exactly what the authors said about their stuffs because it worked for them, not you.
Remember, everyone is in a different situation. He or she was probably lucky enough to get that position (in search engine ranking) but you are not. You probably are not making sales from your affiliate marketing activity because you lack the experience he has.
It brings out another point: you need to test your newfound understanding.
You need to test whether those methods you discovered will work or not. You should NOT spend a lot of money trying to make it work. You should spend your time testing if it’s suitable for you or not. You probably hate selling stuff, so you should stop selling and start doing freelance or building an Adsense website.
And, if you are not persistent enough, you won’t make a single sale online.
For me, the first key to online success is the persistence to try out things, and adapt it to yourself so that it will work for you. If you don’t persist, than you won’t get what you want out of the online world.

Start-Up Camp Malaysia
Start-Up Camp Malaysia is an interesting event you could attend if you want to know more about how to engineer your own start-up company.
According to the website:
Startup Camp, a.k.a “The Unconference for the Startup Community”, is an unconference-style event that’s dedicated to bringing together the various members of the startup community for a face-to-face collaborative meetup where its the attendees that drive the agenda (in true unconference fashion).
Start-Up Camp is organized by my friend Daniel Lim and the same team that brought you BarCamp Malaysia. If you liked BarCap you will probably like this event as well. Go here to register for Start-Up Camp.
Global Entrepreneurship Week Malaysia
Global Entrepreneurship Week Malaysia happens from November 17-23. This event covers a lot of talks on entrepreneurship in Malaysia, although through the badly organized event listing description I find it difficult to understand exactly what they are and how you may benefit from them.
Besides it seems more targeted towards CEOs and multinational companies, but there are some interesting stuff that you may enjoy as a small business owner too. If you want to learn more about entrepreneurship do check out their event listings.
Below is a video of the event.
TrueWealth Day Event Pictures
TrueWealth Day presented a great oportunity for me to meet up with local authors as well as Mr Azizi Ali, my publisher and well-respected expert on personal finance here in Malaysia. Here are some pictures, noted that I didn’t take quite as many as I should have
Picture of us having lunch with Mr Azizi Ali.
I never knew True Wealth had published so many books by local authors until I saw an entire smorgasbord of book titles laid out on the table.
Yeap, that many books!
And a picture of me with Kidino and Zamri Nanyan, two Internet marketers much more experienced in the field of Internet marketing that I am
I first knew Zamri from his MLM Lessons site and for a while I was giving away his free rebrandable e-book. I think that was way back in 2003/04.
Meet Local Malaysian Authors – True Wealth Day
If you’ve ever wanted to meet a lot of Malaysian authors all in one place, here’s your chance.
True Wealth is holding it’s first Open Day on 8th November 2008, and by attending it you get to purchase all True Wealth publications at a discount, both books by Azizi Ali and all Truewealth Authors. Besides that you also get to listen to featured speakers giving valuable presentations on their favorite topics.
I will be there on to give a 30-minute talk titled “Turn Your Knowledge Into a Product”, where I share how anyone can turn their skills or knowledge into digital products that they can sell online for big profits. I will also be autographing books by participants.
True Wealth’s office is in Kelana Jaya (behind Giant, opposite Kelana Square). Please refer to their website for details on the event.
Our Forum Is Moving To WangCyber.com
InternetMillionaires.com.my is making some important changes. However instead of trying to do more, we’re actually going to do more of less. What this means is we’re going to focus on just a few things:
- Conducting seminars and workshops
- Conducting mastermind events & meetings
- Adding more interviews and content
- Helping our affiliates make more sales
The blog and the forum, while useful for members, requires too much effort based on expertise that we do not have. Instead of having members come to a rather empty forum all the time, why not align ourselves with one of the most popular and active forums in Malaysia, WangCyber.com?
There were 2 forums we considered for the move: WangCyber.com and WebmasterMalaysia.com. However, I believe WangCyber.com will be a more mutually beneficial partnership as this a forum more for marketers and idea builders.
At WangCyber you will find Internet marketers who are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This “marriage” in the long run will be better for IMC members. Here’s how it will work:
- Under WangCyber there is a sub-forum called “Internet Millionaires Forum” which is the default forum for all IMC members
- WangCyber forum is in Bahasa Malaysia, but the sub-forum will be in English - of course you’re free to write in English, BM or the trademark “Manglish”
- You’re free to participate in any other part of WangCyber, trade with other members, and much more.
We’re starting the forum from scratch, so you will have to register again here: http://www.wangcyber.com/forum/register.php
Please also read this announcement from me.
Ideally, we would like to have the forum right here as it is. But I’m sure with this move, we can both provide a more conducive environment for members to discuss and learn from other members, as well as help us focus on planning and creating more valuable content and events for members.
I will make a commitment to visit the new forum daily and answer any questions posted in this forum. With all the technical headaches removed, I look forward to learning from each other.
All other areas of InternetMillionaires.com.my will remain unchanged.
Buying and Selling Websites for Profit
Welcome to our guest speaker for the November BootCamp – Sunny Tan!
Most of you may have already met Sunny, and while Sunny and me started out about the same time, we took very different paths. Suny focused more on building content-driven sites and monetizing them with Google AdSense, helping him earn a 4-figure USD income which eventually gave him the confidence to become a full time Internet marketer starting January 2008.
Sunny eventually discovered that other people are more than willing to pay him thousands of dollars to buy his sites, and hence started a new business model of “flipping” websites for profit.
In this short podcast, Sunny explains how it works and what t expect. To discover more on buying and selling websites for profit, make sure you attend our bootcamp!
